Cambridge Community Forest

In partnership with local community members, the Agricultural Stewardship Association is working to create the Cambridge Community Forest on a 145-acre wooded property in the Town of White Creek, at the edge of the Village of Cambridge. The property will be owned by ASA and managed for public use.

In partnership with local community members, the Agricultural Stewardship Association is working to create the Cambridge Community Forest on a 145-acre wooded property in the Town of White Creek, at the edge of the Village of Cambridge. The property will be owned by ASA and managed for public use, including:

  • Trails for walking, hiking, cross-country skiing, and mountain biking
  • Fishing on the White Creek and bird watching
  • Outdoor educational programs
  • Gathering place and picnic spot
  • Demonstration site for sustainable forestry practices

The location is within easy walking and biking distance of downtown Cambridge, Cambridge Central School, daycares and youth programs.

ASA is under contract to purchase the property early this summer and then will work on additional fundraising and infrastructure improvements to allow public access. ASA has raised most of the funds needed to purchase the property. But we still need to raise $75,000 from the community to help cover the remaining closing costs, bridge repairs, the creation of a parking area, signage, trail improvements and a fund to cover the annual carrying costs (including property tax).

Community involvement is key to making this project a success. Make this part of your legacy to future generations in Cambridge! Click here to share your ideas for the forest.
