Event Details

19 Sep
Farm-scale permaculture design tour and discussion
Date: September 19, 2021
Time: 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Place: Hay Berry Farm
Address: 1176 Babcock Lake Road, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090

See how contours, holding ponds and perennial plantings have transformed the sloping hayfields of Hay Berry Farm to conserve water and support diversity.

The recently conserved 166-acre Hay Berry Farm produces blueberries, shitake mushrooms, lavender, dried flowers and pasture-raised chicken.  In 2019 farmer Lawrie Nickerson worked with Mark Shepard and local permaculture practitioner Jared Woodcock to create waterways, holding ponds and berms which were planted in chestnuts and hazelnuts. The grassways in-between are now used to raise pastured chickens. The goal is to hold water that would run off the slopes in the past and use perennial plantings to increase biological diversity eventually adding more products for farm income.

There is a $10 fee per household. Space is very limited. All participants must pre-register.
