Grazing Management Pasture Walk and Evening Slide Presentation: Learn how grazing management can improve pasture productivity, soil health, and climate resiliency.

Join ASA, for an afternoon pasture walk on the conserved Fuller Acres farm in Fort Ann, hosted by farmer and ACAM Conservation Steward, Olivia Fuller.

The walk will be led by regional grazing expert Sarah Flack, author of The Art and Science of Grazing. Sarah has honed her expertise working on her family farm in Vermont and while living in New Zealand. Her focus is on helping to create more farms with grass-based management systems, which allow farmers to create positive change in their landscapes, livestock, checkbook and farm family quality of life. She has worked with dairy, beef, sheep, goat and poultry farms, and is experienced with both organic and non-organic farming systems.

The walk will take place on Wednesday, September 25th from 2-3:30 PM at Fuller Acres Farm located at 340 West Road, Fort Ann, NY, and will focus on guidelines for successful pasture management, how to use grazing to improve pasture quality and productivity, reviewing the growth habits of perennial plants and the role of pasture plant diversity. The program will include some practical, hands-on monitoring of soil health.

This program is suitable for anyone raising livestock on pasture and those interested in trying grass-based livestock operations. There will be time for questions and discussion. The Pasture Walk is FREE. Register below.

In addition, author Sarah Flack will present a slide show and community talk later in the evening, at 6:30-8:00 PM at Common Roots Brewing Company's Brewers Bar, located at 58 Saratoga Avenue, South Glens Falls, NY.

The evening presentation will demonstrate how farmers are adopting farming practices which improve soil health and climate resiliency. Farmer Olivia Fuller will also be on hand to talk about how her family farm is transitioning from a dairy to a diversified livestock operation. The cost of the evening program is $15 which includes a choice of light fare and a Common Roots beverage. Register below.

Support for these programs is generously provided in part by the Common Roots Foundation and an NRCS Soil Health Stewards grant administered by the American Farmland Trust.
