ASA Elects New Officers

Seth Jacobs will lead the Agricultural Stewardship Association board of directors as it moves forward with plans to accelerate its farmland conservation efforts in Washington and northern Rensselaer counties.

The board of directors recently elected Jacobs president to replace Dave Horn, who exhausted his term limits but will remain active as honorary president. Jacobs, a vegetable farmer from Argyle, served on the ASA board for twelve years including one year as vice president.

“I have admired this organization throughout its 16 year history and look forward to helping the board mobilize the community to protect farmland. We believe our region's farmland should be treated like the important natural resource that it is, and passed on to the next generation with its agricultural value conserved.” Jacobs says, “ASA is in a position to accomplish great things, and the time to act is now.”

The board elected Sean Quinn, a heifer facility operator and crop farmer in Easton, to the position of vice president. Two new members have been added to the board of directors, Mary Ellen Williams of Greenwich and Phil Gitlen of Easton. Williams is a retired librarian and former town planning board chairperson. Gitlen is a partner in the law firm of Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP and has been practicing environmental law since 1974.
