Donated Easements

fall-barns-hanfA landowner can also choose to donate a conservation easement to ASA. There are many reasons why people choose to donate easements, including estate planning and family consensus-building between generations, state and federal income tax deductions, state property tax credits, desire to leave a legacy to future generations, or simply because they feel it is the “right thing to do” as stewards of the land. Donated easements typically take three to eight months to complete depending on the complexity of the project. If landowners want to complete their easement donation in a certain year for tax purposes, they should contact ASA as soon as possible to gauge feasibility. Due to funding constraints and criteria for other conservation programs, this may be the only option available to some landowners who want to see their land protected in their lifetime. Landowners can also donate a conservation easement on their land via their will. Please contact ASA for recommended language.
