Camp Notes Day 10 - Pizza / Cocoa Date Truffles

5R9A3042ebyEllie MarkovitchOur last day of camp was filled, like the rest of the days, with delicious food, great photos and lots of fun! Keep reading for our easy pizza and cocoa date truffle recipes - plus Angelina's Pasta from Scratch recipe!

On our last day of camp, we spent the morning looking through all the wonderful photos the campers had taken throughout the two weeks. They edited, selected, and compiled their favorites for the exhibit - there are some really incredible shots to see!

After a morning in the lab it was time to head down to the kitchen one last time for a delicious lunch that pulled together all of the things that we had done and seen (and eaten) in the past two weeks. Using flour that we had ground ourselves on Howard's flour milling bike, basil like that we had picked at the Produce Project and the Denison's Farm, and some of the cheese we had purchased from Mapledale Farm.

Be sure to check out the amazing exhibit of the kids' work that is up at The Arts Center through September 16th and come to our Troy Night Out opening reception on August 30th!

Bonus: Pasta From Scratch!

Recipe by Angelina Malatesta

1 egg
1 cup of flour
Pinch of salt
1 Tbsp. of olive oil

- Make a mound with your flour, then make a hole in the flour not going all the way through.

- Crack your egg and put it in the hole. Also put the pinch of salt in the hole.

- Now break the yolk and start to mix together.

- Once you start mixing, put olive oil in.

- Once you get a dough, if there is still some dough notsticking together put some water in it.

- Once you have a whole piece of dough put it in plastic wrap in the refrigerator for 30 min.

- Then roll out the dough and get your pasta machine and flatten it to number 5 then pick the pasta you want.

- When your pasta is ready, get the water boiling and put the pasta in. Wait until the pasta rises then wait one more minute. Strain out the water and the pasta is ready!
