Event description:

primitive-forest-northeastThe Agricultural Stewardship Association (ASA) invites all landowners to a presentation on woodland management with Rich McDermott, NYS DEC forester from the Warrensburg office. Rich has worked for the DEC for 19 years. His work as a state forester includes administering recreation, timber sales, trespass, permits and many more duties on NYS forest land.

In addition Rich participates in educational programs for students and teaches the silviculture and ecosystem portions of the New York logger training in our region. A big part of Rich’s job is working directly with private landowners to develop stewardship plans and administering the 480 and 480a tax law programs for Warren, Washington and Saratoga counties. Rich has a wealth of information and experience to answer your forestry questions.

The program will cover forest management plans, 480a tax law program, boundary posting, timber trespass, consulting foresters, selling timber, DEC programs and EQIP cost share programs available for landowners, plus your questions. The program is free and all are welcome.

The Agricultural Stewardship Association was founded in 1990 by farmers to protect agricultural land and ensure a future for farming in our region. To date, ASA has helped protect 17,655 acres on 113 properties in Washington and Rensselaer counties. For more information about ASA’s work, visit

Partial funding for this program provided by Robert H. Wentorf Foundation.
